Subject of presentation
Through the use of light installations Teresa van Dongen makes you think about circularity, sustainability, nature and its scarce resources. In this presentation she will show how she creates a bond between installation and user and activates people to think and change. “The light installation need care, in return you get light and energy. This creates a lasting bond with the object, just like you take good care of a plant.” Furthermore, she will offer an alternative to our current energy use; lighting that does not require a plug or power from the grid, giving you the choice to bypass the system we are currently stuck in.
Designer Teresa van Dongen has researched microbes that can provide us with nutrients, energy and light. She developed several light installations that work on the power of bacteria. Van Dongen graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in June 2014. Her work is particularly inspired by nature, science and developments in the field of sustainability. Prior to her design training, she studied biology for two years. This preliminary training is still a great source of inspiration for her current work.
